Reverse Stencil Pillowcases

Here's a great idea for making custom pillowcases for your kids.  I got the idea from a family fun magazine article where they were making t-shirts this way.

Contact paper
pattern for stencil
pillowcase or t-shirt
sprayable fabric paint

Step 1:  Print a pattern of some kind out (I used flowers, butterfly's & elephant printouts for my kids pillowcases.  The tree was free handed, and the "water" shape under the elephants was free handed by my son)

Step 2: Staple the patter to your contact paper making sure to staple onto the contact paper on the outside of the pattern so that when it gets cut out it will not have any staples on the actual pattern.

Step 3:  Cut out your pattern on the contact paper.

Step 4:  Put a sheet of cardboard inside your pillowcase to keep the paint from seeping thru to the back of the pillowcase.

Step 5:  Peel the contact paper and stick it on your pillowcase where you want it to be.

Step 6:  Spray your pillowcases with the fabric spray paint.  I used Tulip brand paint you can find it at wal-mart or any craft store like Michaels.  I found that if you propped up your pillow case and sprayed straight at it you got a fine mist but if you laid it flat on the ground you would get more of a splatter spray (do this outside of course so you don't get paint on anything else).

Step 7:  Repeat spraying with any of the colors you want.

Step 8:  Allow to fully dry then remove the cardboard from the middle.

Step 9:  Follow directions on paint package for dry times and washing instructions.

Step 10:  Let your kids enjoy their very own custom made pillow cases.

Batman Candy Melt Cake Toppers

Yes, I think I am officially obsessed with candy melts.  This time I've made the batman logo.  These would be perfect for a Batman themed party or even a Halloween party.  I made these pretty thin to just sit on top of the icing on a cake or cupcake.  You could also make them a little thicker by adding a thicker coating of white or chocolate candy melts to the back.  Then if you wanted you could press a lollipop stick in the back.  That way you could have custom candy melt lollipops or you could then push the stick into a cupcake to make a really awesome cupcake.  Below shows where I had printed a sheet full of the logos and had already went over the images with chocolate candy melts and had started filling them in with the white chocolate candy melts.  For more directions and ideas for other candy melt cake toppers please look at all my candy melt posts.

Yup, they are my kids!

So we are having people over tonight for the 4th of July and my husband is at work so my goal for today was to have the kids help me clean the house.  I sent them downstairs to pickup their toys and I was working on cleaning the upstairs.  It didn't take very long and they were back upstairs saying they wanted to decorate the basement for the 4th and showed me that they found some blue streamers that they wanted to make something with.  So  we stopped cleaning at once and went to work on a craft project, because of course I would rather be crafting than cleaning.  A few pieces of construction paper and one sheet of cutout stars later we had a really great looking 4th of July decoration.  My house is still not clean but oh well.  I guess finding out that my kids are crafters before all else is more important to me than having a clean house.  Here's a picture of the finished project.  Turned out really cute didn't it.

Ice Cream Sundae Party - A Frozen Favorite

Ice cream is loved by so many people it is sure to be a hit at your party.  And if you happen to have someone who can't or doesn't want to eat the ice cream the toppings are so good just by themselves they will still have a great time.  To make it special you can get waffle bowls, waffle cones or just buy bowls that match your theme.

Supplies you will need
Bowls or Large Waffle Cones
Ice Cream
Ice Cream Scoop
Spoons for the ice cream
Spoons/Bowls to serve the toppings in
TOPPINGS!!! (see below)

Ok the toppings are what make an ice cream sundae party so great.  You let everyone create their own so they are sure to like it.  There are so many toppings to choose from but you don't need to go crazy with offering a lot of options.  Even if you only offer 3 or 4 toppings that is still going to be plenty to make an awesome sundae.

My Favorite Topping Choices
Chocolate Syrup
Caramel Syrup
Oreos (or any other kind of cookie)
Brownies (you could use the brownies for the Birthday Cake if you wanted to)
M&M's (or any other type of candy)
Nuts (but check for food allergies)
Maraschino Cherries
Whip cream (Splurge and get the spray kind in the can.  Kids love that kind)
Fruit (Don't forget Bananas if you want to make some Splits)

A kid made sundae.
It doesn't have to be beautiful to taste good!!
